Filling out the Convention card

by David Lindop

When you and your partner sit down to play in a club or tournament game, you’re expected to fill out a convention card listing all the bidding and defensive carding agreements of the partnership. David Lindop walks you through the process in this excellent series. See the entire list below.

One of our readers writes:

I want to thank David Lindop for his wonderful articles each month in the "play bridge" section of the Bridge Bulletin regarding "keeping up with conventions".  These articles have helped me immensely. Due to the fine work David does each month with his detailed examples on how to fill out the convention card, I not only understand how to fill out my card, I learn about the specifics of the conventions in a way no other information source has shown me. I tip my hat to David and look forward to future articles on this subject. Thanks again David for a job well done. I love to read the entire Bridge Bulletin but especially the "play bridge" section. I think it is well written and I highly recommend it to all the people I come in contact with in the bridge world. Don Helmericks

PDF NOTES: Clicking on the titles above will launch your Adobe Acrobat Reader. It may take a moment or two before the page comes up. Once the Reader is launched, however, all the articles will come up quickly. If you want to Print an article or Save it to your disk, click on the printer or disk icon, top left on your Reader Menu Bar.

We have noticed that opening these articles one after another can tend to fill your available memory - eventually articles will fail to open. To alleviate this, you could empty your browser cache: On the PC, choose Tools --> Internet Options --> General --> Temporary Internet Files --> Delete Files. For MACs, Choose Edit --> Preferences --> Web Browser --> Advanced --> History - Clear and Cache - Empty Now.

Another method to consider would be to save the article directly to your disc without opening in the browser. To do this on a PC (Windows)
Right click on desired links and choose Save Target As. Choose a location on your drive. On the MAC click and hold, then choose Download Link To Disk. Choose a location on your computer, or simply choose DESKTOP.

If all else fails, simply quit your browser and reopen. The cache will be empty and you can continue to open and print the articles.
